August 22, 2009 -- Head on Collision
Hickory Rescue responded mutual aide for St. Stephens Station 4 for a head
on collision
with confirmed pin-in. Rescue assisted in the extrication of one pt.
Both vehicles sustained
heavy damage.

August 18, 2009 -- Head on Collision
Hickory Rescue responded to a reported head on collision. Hickory Fire
arrived on scene advising
a two vehicle accident, head on collision. It was confirmed the
passenger of the white car was
a fatality. There were two other patients, one in each vehicle. The
driver of the pick up sustained
multiple injuries was entrapped in his vehicle. Crews flapped the roof to
remove the pt. The driver
of the white car removed himself from the vehicle. Both patients were
flown to CMC by MedCenter
Air. Witnesses stated the white vehicle had got on 321 headed in the wrong
direction towards oncoming
traffic when he collided with the pickup, sending the car under the truck.
The truck then went into the
air before landing on it's side.

July 22, 2009 -- Car Vs House
Station 4, Hickory Rescue, and CCEMS responded to a call of a vehicle that
had hit a
structure. Special thanks to Matt Deal from SSFD for these pictures.


May 26, 2009 -- Swift Water Rescue
At 14:40, CMED received a call about an overturned canoe off of Greedy Hwy.,
in the Jacob Fork River. A canoe carrying three people struck a tree and
overturned. One of the
three in the canoe managed to make it to shore. The other two made it to a small
island in the
middle of the river. Hickory Rescue was first on scene. Command
called for the Catawba County USAR team, who
rescue the two people from the island. Other agencies assisting as part of
the USAR team were:
Catawba Rescue, Claremont Rescue, Newton Conover Rescue, Station 11, Station 16,
Catawba
County Fire Marshall's Office, and Catawba County EMS.

May 16, 2009 -- Firebonz Structure Fire
Around 1900, Hickory Fire, Hickory Rescue, and CCEMS were dispatched to
a structure fire at the Firebonz restaurant. Upon arrival, the structure
had
heavy smoke coming from it. Hickory Rescue immediately set up a medical
zone while firefighters started attacking the fire. Though it was quickly
contained
heavy fire damage was sustained. No one was injured in the fire. Units on
scene were
Hickory Fire Engine 5, Engine 7, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, C7, 93 Medic 2,
and 3 Medic 1.

May 15, 2009 -- MVC with Extrication
Early morning, Hickory Rescue was dispatched to a MVC with a confirmed
Pin-In by Hickory PD on scene. Upon arrival, it was a one vehicle accident
with severe damage that had left the roadway, went airborne, and hit a house.
Two patients had possibly life-threatening injuries while one pt denied injury.
Crews had to extricate one patient that was trapped inside. Police said
they believe
speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The residence suffered some
structural
damage from being hit, though no one was injured inside.

March 26, 2009 -- MVC with Rollover
Early in the morning with the dense fog and steady rain, Hickory Rescue was
dispatched to a MVC with a reported rollover. Upon arrival, there were two
vehicles involved, one that had rolled over in a ditch. The two patients
in the red pickup were unable to get out of their vehicle from the inside
but a bystander was able to get the passenger door open where they crawled
out. One pt was spinaled, 2 were transported, and 1 refused with a minor
laceration.

March 2, 2009 -- Car vs House
At 10:15 pm, Hickory Rescue responded with HFD, HPD, EMS to a report of a
vehicle hitting a house. Crews responded with the crash truck and USAR
truck.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a car was running from police when it lost
control and struck a house. Upon the arrival of the Hickory City building
inspector, crews shored the house. Crews were on scene for approx. 2
hours.

Feb 24, 2009 -- Traffic Accident
A 5 year old girl was flown out due to a traffic accident on Hwy. 70 about
7pm.
A drunk driver hit the van seen below at nearly 50 mph. The family in the
van was sitting at a red light when the drunk slammed into them, not even
hitting the brakes. The impact sent both vehicles into the Panda Express
parking lot. Witnesses said the
Durango hit the van so hard the two vehicles were virtually fused into one
another.
There were four people in the van when the Durango struck it. The driver along
with passengers
including a 2-year-old boy were transported to Frye Regional Medical
Center where they were treated and released.

Feb 8, 2009 -- Structure Fire -- Penelope Baptist
At 5:40am, Hickory Rescue was paged out reference a fully involved structure
fire.
En route, units on scene advised a fully involved working fire. Smoke and
flames filled
the air as units worked to contain the fire.

Jan. 19, 2009 and Jan 25, 2009 -- Structure
Fires -- Village Inn
Early January 19th, Hickory Rescue responded with EMS and HFD to a report
of a structure fire at Village Inn Pizza on Hwy. 70. The structure was
fully involved
at arrival and suffered severe damage. Early on the 25th, Hickory Rescue
was paged
out to yet another fire, at the 127 Village Inn Pizza. The structure was
once again
fully involved but crews quickly got the fire under control. Both fires
are deemed
suspicious by law enforcement.

Jan 16, 2009 -- 10 50 PI
Hickory Rescue responded on yet another traffic accident in a row to Hwy.
321
and Clement Blvd. Rescue and HFD arrived on scene to the smell of battery
acid and steam. Rescue crews found two vehicles with moderate
to severe damage. One patient claimed to be uninjured while another
patient (driver of the white car) was semi responsive with severe injuries to
his legs.
It was said by witnesses that the driver didn't appear to hit his brakes and the
body
damage agreed. The entire front end had been smashed in and crushed the
battery.
Rescue crews assisted EMS in patient care while transported 10-33 to the
hospital.

Hickory Rescue was paged out reference a traffic accident.
Initial
reports reported multiple patients from one of the vehicles. Rescue units
ended up transporting roughly 5 patients while the EMS crew transported
the more seriously injured pt.

Jan 9, 2009 -- 10 50 PI -- Car vs. Tractor
Trailer
At 2:40am, Hickory Rescue was paged out reference a traffic accident.
Initial
reports stated that a passenger car had ran up under the trailer or a transfer
truck. Upon Hickory PD's arrival, they advised to continue on 10-33
reference
confirmed entrapment. As rescue arrived, the pt had just got himself free.
He suffered
a head wound from hitting the bumper of the trailer. He was transported to
the hospital.
